Someone who is fleeing from being drafted into the army..they usual go to Canada.
Canada granted amnesty to deserters during the American Revolution. They were allied with the British and would naturally protect their interests in this way.
Able bodied males between 18 and above (late twenties, based upon the needs of the service); by far, the vast majority of draft dodgers were simply males that were afraid of the military. They often said it, "...if I didn't have to go thru boot camp...I'd go! (to Vietnam)." But it was FAR more honorable to tell people that you, "...didn't believe in the war..." than to admit you were just plain scared (of the army).
France has a draft for males. Minimum age is 17, maximum is 35.
It caused the President, Vice-President, Congressmen, Senators, etc. etc. etc. to become fed up with anything associated with Vietnam...Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, draft dodgers, the draft, hippies, riots, protests, draft card burning, flag burning, etc. People wanted to move on!
If men won't come to the army...then the army will come to the men!
a draft is a federal thing. it takes states rights, the south were against a federal government. that's why they had state militias that fought, not a national army. the draft would make a national army.
draft them into the Army
