Vet's rarely use aspirin for fever," said Dr. Guglielmino. "Aspirin can be used with close veterinarian supervision but we use it for chronic Arthritis pain and Heart disease to help prevent blood clots." Aspirin is typically metabolized slowly in a cats system; therefore, it's used in low doses. In addition, a cat dosage is a small fraction of the human dosage. According to Guglielmino, most veterinarians do not try to lower fever with anti-pyretic medication (Aspirin) but instead try to identify the cause of the fever and specifically treat the cause instead of treating the symptom. "Cats do not have elucuronyl transferas, a liver enzymes needed to break down human medications and can't convert acetaminophen to non-toxic byproducts," stated Guglielmino. "Acetaminophen is Tylenol - never use on a cat, it will kill them. Cats cannot tolerate other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen."

I'm not sure cats can get the flu, but if they can, whatever you do, DON'T give it human medicine. That could kill it. It would be best to ask your local vet about the situation. He/she knows what the best thing to do is.

Cats cannot get colds or flus like humans get, however they can get bacterial respiratory infections that strongly resemble them. These need to be treated with antibiotics prescribed by the vet. If your cat sneezes alot and has green nasal secretions get it to the vet!

None - you should never give human medications to an animal because these medications are not safe for animals. Furthermore, most feline colds or flus are due to a viral infection and even veterinarians don't have drugs that are effective in clearing these viral infections.

Nothing as many of the human type drugs are very dangerous to a cat. If your cat has a temperature, then you need to know what is causing it. The best and only answer is to take your cat into your Veterinarian to have him or her checked out. Normal temp in a cat is 101-102.

Cats can easily be poisoned by over the counter medicines. A cat's body temperature is higher then a humans. If you still feel your pet has a fever seek emergency medical treatment.

What can you give a cat for a fever?

The best thing to give a cat that has a fever is a trip to the vet. It may not actually have a fever -- cats are very warm to begin with. If you're sure your cat has a fever (temperature over 102.5 F) then take it to the vet -- it likely has an infection and needs antibiotics.
