The iris.

- - - - -

No. It's the eyelid. The shutter's function is to completely stop light from reaching the film (or the sensor, if you have a digital camera with a mechanical shutter). The iris in your eye cannot do this--only the eyelid can.

The camera uses a shutter with a small, central opening to admit light. If the object is bright, the shutter closes the opening; if dim, the shutter enlarges the opening to collect more light. In the eye, the iris, the colored part of the eye, performs the shutter function on the light-admitting opening - the pupil. In bright light, the iris makes the pupil small, thus admitting less light; and in dim light, the iris makes it large, admitting more.

The similarity is in light passing the lens both for the eye and for the camera.

The eye lens is passive. The camera shutter controls the amount of light entering the camera.

But the eye lens affect the eye only when there is cloudiness of the lens like in cataract.

The lens. However, the human lens is flexible. Focusing is accomplished by tensing or relaxing the muscles surrounding the lens, changing its shape and therefore the focus. Camera lenses are inflexible, so focusing is accomplished by moving the lens closer or further from the film plane.
The light rays first pass through the clear front part of the eye called the CORNEA. The light then passes through the PUPIL, which is an opening created by the IRIS or colored part of the eye. Next, the light passes through the LENS and finally arrives at the RETINA.

So the part of the eye most oike the lens of a camera is the LENS. It's not the IRIS; that controls the size of the opening that the light comes though.

What is the thickest part of a camera lens?

It depends whether it's a concave or convex lens. If it's a convex lens - the thickest part is at the centre. With a concave lens, the thickest part is around the edge.

What part of a camera controls the amount of light that enters the camera?

The functional opening is the aperture, the opening that controls the amount of light that hits the photosensitive surface. You may have a camera with interchangeable lenses that screw into and out of the camera's body. The opening into which the lens is screwed is not the aperture.

What should I do if my digital camera turns on for a split second then turns back off there is a possibility of sand in it?

It's possible there is corrosion to the mainboard (PCB) of the camera; it's like a computer motherboard. If so then it is shorting out the camera and the part will need to be replaced. Yes, if there is sand in the lens then the lens will be jammed and the camera may not turn on. The lens will need to be removed, opened, cleaned and checked for damage. This is a long process and usually difficult to do. If you don't want to try and repair it yourself, try the Related Link below that says "digital camera repair", its an online business that has affordable lens and LCD screen repairs.

What VR stand for camera lens?

"VR" is a Nikon thing. It means "vibration reduction." It's got two parts to it. In the camera body, there are two angular velocity sensors. One of them detects up-and-down shaking, the other detects side-to-side shaking. In the lens there is one glass element that's got two motors attached to it. They move the element to compensate for your shaking. The result is you can shoot at shutter speeds far slower than you could without it. The VR lens only works as part of a system, so if you buy a VR lens and put it on a non-VR camera it won't do you any good.

Why did Apollo 12 plan fall through to broadcast color TV?

Human error on the part of LMP Al Bean. When moving the camera into position he accidentally pointed the lens directly at the sun. Because the camera had no lens cap, the direct, intense sunlight burned out the camera's vidicon tubes, rendering the camera inoperable.
