Consequences of OverpopulationA psychological study put a high density population of mice in an enclosed area, gave them plenty of bedding material and plenty of food.

Mice started to demonstrate aberrant behavior, from food hoarding, mothers killing their offspring, bands of adolescent mice attacking other mice and even homosexual behaviors. While there is no evidence that overpopulation would contribute to such behaviors in humans, one must at least contemplate the possibilities.

Species extinction. not neccessarily the overpopulating one, but something has to give.

The effects of overpopulation are many.

1. There will be less area available for people and cities and villages will become more congested and they will begin to degrade as demand for infrastructure will rise more quickly than it can get be met.

2. Exponential increase in the population rate will also result in huge burden on the already stressed out Natural Resources like water, fossil-fuels.

3. Also there will be a large increase in demand for food than it can be met by farming.

4. As the demand for space will rise it will result in large scale deforestation which will lead to extinction of several plants, animals and insects.

Animal overpopulation occurs when an ecosystem is unable to support the existing wildlife because there are too many of a given species. The environment suffers due to the strain from the natural activities of the overpopulated species. The results can be devastating as animals scrape for food and wander into unnatural habitats in search of something to eat. Disease is also a factor as the ecosystem makes a final attempt to regain a natural balance and order. Overpopulated animal species lead difficult lives with limited resources.
