Youths should not participate in politics. Rather they should learn more about the political process- how it works, how it is a fundamental right of all citizens and how it must be protected. No campaigning related to political issues should be carried out in schools.
The role of schools is to educate young people. School systems should provide a curriculum that is rich in American history- all American history. Many people today want to forget significant periods in American history that led to many of the problems we face today. As the Spanish philosopher George Santayana said, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." We seem to be repeating some of the same mistakes we made in the past.
Schools should teach young people how to think critically and how to separate factual information from political Propaganda, especially on the internet. Schools should encourage and emphasize our right to vote, in all grades but especially at the high school level. Americans need to 'relearn' the importance of having free elections where every citizen gets to cast their vote for the officials who will have the authority to govern America. The election process can be taught on every level in age appropriate mock elections. High school students can be given access to voter registrationat school for any students who are old enough to register.
Millions of Americans cannot muster the energy to get out to cast their vote. Perhaps their children can teach them how important it is to vote if we teach them.

until 1933, most schools in Germany were run by local state governments. After the Nazi's took power, control of the schools was taken from the states and given t a ministry of education in Berlin. Many changes resulted. Jewish teachers were sacked. all other teachers were made to take an oath to hitler. textbooks were rewritten to include Nazi ideas. courses in German history, politics and 'racial hygiene' were introduced, and PE classes were doubled. the next step was nazi scrapped the youth groups and replaced them with a blanket organisation called the 'hitler youth movement,' and made participation compulsory. through this organisation indoctrinisation was far more efficient.
