Gean is one of the common names forPrunus avium AKA sweet cherry tree. This long cultivated trees valued for its lush sweet fruit. Lost in time, sweet cherry trees are believed to have originated from a region between the Black and Caspian Seas in Asia Minor and are grown in temperate regions worldwide.
(The term gean refers to a type of cherry tree or its fruit.) Cultivators soon grafted new cherry varieties to the hardy gean tree.
