In the colonial days, shoes could be worn on either foot. A last was a wooden mold that was used to shape the shoe because they could be worn on either foot. An awl was a tool used to punch holes in the leather before they stitched the holes together. They used a needle from stiff boar hair. They also used pegs to fasten the sole to the upper part of the shoe as well as special knives to shape the leather sole.

I haven't looked up the usage in the play, but a cobbler can have two meanings depending on how it is used. In one use a cobbler is a person who makes shoes ( I suspect that this is the usage in the play since in the time frame that is what is used for a "shoemaker"). A cobbler can also be a baked pie of fruit.
Cobbler or Shoe Cobbler

A cobbler or shoe-maker. A 'last' is a removable foot-shaped mould - usually wood or metal, that the cobbler uses to create the shape of a shoe during manufacture.
