Up until recently The salt used in sat water pools was Sodium chloride However there is now also a system available that used Magnesium and Potassium chloride which is better for you and the environment you can water the yard with the backwash without killing the garden

No you will not have a salt water pool. yes you will have salt water but the actual electronic plates found in a genrator converts the salt in the water to chlorine to sanitize the pool water.
