∙ 10y agoBefore the ascent of the Nazis, about the same as for any other German. Jews were fully integrated in German society, free to pursue any career, and most of them would have described themselves as 'German' before Jewish. Many of them had fought with distinction in the German army during WW I. It must be said that pre-war Western Europe always had known a certain level of 'general' anti-semitism, mostly in the form of a slightly condescending attitude towards Jews, comparable to that which existed in 'upper-class society' in the US until even after the war. That form of anti-semitism was however at the time even more outspoken in France than in Germany.

Germany was in a state of depression much like the united states in the 1930's, but the Jewish communities seemed to be doing better then everyone else in Germany so the nazi's found someone to blame the depression on which started to casue the hate of the Jewish people.
