The Battle of Britain was an air battle fought in the skies over Southern England in late summer 1940. After the fall of France, Germany intended to invade Britain (Operation Sealion), but to do this they had to have air superiority. They started attacking airfields all over Southern England to neutralize the Royal Air Force (RAF), but their losses of both aircraft and aircrew were so high that they abandoned the plan and attacked the Soviet Union instead.
