the Saxophone was invented by the same guy who invented the tuba, Adolph Sax. the first one had a rediculus range but wasn't very practical so over time it evolved into several instruments to acomidate a person's ability.
Adolphe Sax invented the saxophone in the 1840's. He was looking to create an instrument with the power of brass instruments, but with the musical facility of the reed instruments.
His first instruments were made of brass, just like the ophecleide (a bass cup-mouthpiece instrument which he also made.) So in essence, the modern saxophone is made of the same material that the first ones were made from.
The saxophone was developed circa 1840 by Adolphe Sax, a Belgian-born instrument-maker, flautist, and clarinetist working in Paris.
The Alto Saxophone basically came from the Flute and the Clarinet. Although it has a reed mouthpeice of a clarinet, it has all of the same fingerings that a flute has.
The saxophone was developed in belgium by Adolphe Sax, an instrument designer living in the 18th century. He designed all 14 types of saxophones and had them patented inn 1846
The saxophone was invented by a Belgian clarinetist by the name of Adolphe Sax. After settling in Paris Aldolphe Sax invented the saxophone and later had it patented in 1846.

I think that the sax is cooler. It's partially because I play the alto sax, but I think the sax is easier too.
The alto sax is generally not known as "an E flat sax", as a baritone saxophone is also in E flat.

Yes and no, a symphony does have an alto sax sometimes but it is not required for it to have one. It really depends if the symphony is classical, blues, or jazz. Jazz and blues should always have an alto sax. Classical doesn't really need an alto sax, but it does make classical sound better.
