Freed blacks were joyful they were free but they wern't liking it because of the south states had passed these laws that limited what they can and can't do and it was basically making them slaves again. they had to be labors of the whites, have a note to go into town, if they run-away they will either be imprisoned or killed, and so much more it's just so hard on them just because of their skin color which is prjeduse.the north knew it was wronge and they ended it in 2000 and it started in 1865 even though it took them a while I'm glad it ended because I'm black and it's prejeduse.
Getting enough food to sustain them through their difficult workday is/was prime. Also, getting an education and finding a job was tough as well.
Before that however they still had to escape and that was also challenging.
Just think, when African Americans first arrived in america they were slaves.They did long hours of hard labor.harvesting fields for no pay.They were obligated to live in run down houses outside a real home.Not knowing the feeling of having anything treasureable or the feelin g of knowing their fellow men.just seeing the world through rough battered eyes.Most were taken from friends and family into a world of a new civilization.Some starved and some brung diseases.More than half of the Africans sold or captured in Africa died on the way over from starvation and illness.

It was hard for the Southerners to tell the difference between a free black and a slave. They usually had one piece of paper saying that they were free. Even though they were free, people still didn't think slaves were equal to whites!
Racial Discrimination mainly displayed by the KKK. Another Challenge that free blacks faced was finding a living in the still very racist america.

The Emancipation Proclamation freed the slaves in the states that were in rebellion. This put the onus on them to return to the Union or face the loss of slaves. Many slaves fled to the union lines where they were considered contraband property until the proclamation went into effect.
