The primary goals of Spain upon its entry into the New World were to explore as much of the New World as possible and claim these lands for Spain. As the Spanish settled into North and South America, they sought to reduce the Native American Tribes and civilizations they encountered. They also set the goal of stealing the gold of these civilizations and also began to mine for new precious metal areas for silver & other precious metals. The additional goal was to use its new territories as a base to prevent France and Great Britain from gaining more territory. Also, the Spanish sought to convert the Native Americans to Catholicism.

Gold, Slaves, and to convert people to their religion
Europeans began arriving to the new world in the 10th century. However, mass settling began in the 15th century with the Spanish explorer Christopher Columbus.
The goals of the Spanish entering the New World were to find gold, silver, and other valuable resources, to spread Christianity through missionary work, to expand their empire and establish colonies, and to convert indigenous populations to their way of life.
Two goals shared by Spanish explorers in the 1500s were to find new trade routes to Asia for spices and other valuable goods and to spread Christianity to indigenous populations in the New World.
