If you mean as this as impenetrable, no water or waste could come in or out. The cell would then be a non living object, or a 'dead cell'.
Do you mean hard as in solid? because if it was solid, you would not be alive.

The cell will not be able to survive if the cell membrane became impermiable since water, ions and important biomolecules can no longer be transported in and out. This transport is essential for the cells survival.

∙ 15y agoif the cell membrane was water proof, it means that the membran is not swelling, the ion exchange is not completely. and hence the cell is said not accurate and not precise.

∙ 10y agoIf the cell membrane became a solid, then no water or waste could cme in or out. The cell then would be a nonliving object, or a "dead cell." If the cell membrane was waterproof, then no water would exist in that cell, and that organism will eventually die, because of no water. ( 4 things to live: Food, Sheter, Air, and WATER.) ∙ 9y agoIf the cell membrane was impermeable, no substances could pass in or out. No glucose and oxygen could pass in for aerobic respiration and no carbon dioxide could diffuse out. This would kill the cell as it could not respire.
