I would say it depends if she's ever had experience with this type of issue. Me personally, I would say thank you and have a nice day. You are better off getting to the point where you can say, I used to use, but I don't any longer. You should be completely recovered. Any stress in that relationship can cause you to turn back to your old ways. You will only hurt her as well as yourself. Be strong, and be honest. If you truly are not going back to that lifestyle, than tell her, and let her know your goals. i think it really depends on the person. seeing as the "average" (whatever that means, it's such an arbitrary term) woman would probably not have much experience with someone who uses drugs, she would probably be slightly taken aback. but if you are honest, and keep on trying to stay clean, there is a chance that it can work out.
== == == == == == Depends on what your idea is of an average woman. You must tell her of course, you can't tell her ten years down the line, then your whole relationship is built on a lie. It would kill you inside anyway. If she really does love you and she can accept that people can make mistakes, who doesn't anyway, and that you are in fact over it. Then she will support you and gain a lot of respect for you for telling her. Then you have met the right woman, go buy the ring, get married and live happily ever after. If she goes through life only looking one way then you wasting your time anyway. It's actually a good opportunity to see how she reacts to it. You could save yourself a lot of time and a definite heart break at the end of the day. I am also a recovering drug addict so I know the embarrassment that goes with it. If someone cannot see that you have chosen life over drugs then they are the weak ones in society, not you. People like you and me have been to the dark side of life and have literally come back from hell. You shouldn't acquaint with people that can't see that, they will only drag you down and make you feel inferior. The people that stick with you that realize its an illness not a choice, they are the backbone of society. These are the people that fight next to you in a war, the others always make up some excuse why they can't be on the front line. Hope this helps, this mentality helped me get through the inferiority complex that comes with someone that has made mistakes in their lives.
