never. the King who abdicated was Edward VIII, on 11 December 1936. King Edward VII died in 1910. He was succeeded by King George V. King Georges' sons were Edward VIII & King George VI, father of Queen Elizabeth II

His grandson, King Edward VIII became king on 20 January 1936 and abdicated on 11 December 1936.
