Call waiting is very common. If you have it disable it before dialing. You can set the disable code (*87 or check with your phone company) in your dialing setup. Pick up your receiver and see if you hear static. That will do it also. Have your phone company check your signal to noise ratio. Try uninstalling and reinstalling your modem. Just delete it from hardware setup and reboot. Try new drivers for your modem. Try dialing a different number. Remove and reinstall dial up networking.
