I cant speak for a 98 model but on a 95 the diagram is in the owners manual. If you need the one for the module under the hood it is on the inside of the lid Hi I have a 98 as well and I had the same question a while ago - I didn't have the owners manual because I bought it used. I found the full manual in pdf. through the Ford fleet website.

I have a 1998 Mercury Mystique and just the other day, my starter started to die. I am guessing that your starter is in the same place as mine, which is why you can not find it. Open the hood, and standing on the drivers side of the car, look down on the side of the engine. (through all the hoses.) You will see the solenoid, and then under that is where the starter is. It is a tough job to get to it if you do not know what you are doing.
Connected to the bell housing. Fllow the wireing and you will find it.
You can find a power steering diagram for a 1999 Mercury Sable in the owner's manual. You can also find it at certain auto part stores.
You can view the 1998 Mercury Mountaineer owners manual online at : www . motorcraft service . com ( no spaces ) Click on Owner Guides ( the fuses and relays section starts on page 136 , it has the diagrams and lists )
The Hayes repair manual for the Mystique has good diagrams with step by step illustrated instructions for timing belt removal and installation. You can find them in most auto parts store and they run around $20.00. In my opinion, I believe the Hayes manuals for this particular make and model are better than the Chilton manuals.
