It should be a tan wire with a yellow tracer (or stripe.) Comes off the ignition coil and then to the back of the instrument cluster. The "electronic," "performance," and "sport" clusters will already have a tachometer, P and S clusters have only one T/Y wire, the electronic cluster has 2 T/Y wires, one of which being PIN 20 (TACH Signal) and the other is PIN 19 (The chime input). The "standard" cluster does not have a pin location nor wiring for a tach, however the wire may be folded back inside the loom or tape covering the harness behind the cluster. Either way, if it's easy enough to look at the ignition coil, then check to see if there is, in fact, a T/Y wire in the connector there. Then you know if Ford did run it or not.
