You can find the answer in the question itself. Son has all the characteristic of a father because if you sow a mango tree you will get mangoes only. similarly Jesus has always preached the message of father has a good son and wanted all of us to go back to our father. As jesus is a son we are also sons and daughters only difference is jesus is an obidient son and cares about every son and daughter. Those who believe in jesus message will surely go back to father (God). Heaven.

AnswerI'm not sure where the previous answerer got his theology from, but it certainly wasn't The Bible. Jesus throughout his ministry made it very clear just who he is - God in human form. Jehovah's Witnesses refuse to accept this citing individual verses out of context to back up heretical views. Yet Jesus made it veryclear just who he was and is.
  • Throughout his ministry he 'taught with authority' in showing his authority to break Levitical law. His phrase used was 'you have heard it said that..... but I tell you...". To the Jew this meant one thing. That jesus, far from being a subservientson of God, was the manifestation of God in human form.
  • He accepted worship. At the end of Matthew's Gospel, Jesus accepted the worship of the disciples. The wise men worshipped him. Contrary to the JW teaching where they translate this as 'deference' the Greek used 'proskuneo' is reserved for worship of God alone.
  • He forgave sins. Not in God's name but in his own. This was the height of blasphemy unless Jesus was exactly who he claimed to be - God with us, Emmanuel. On occasions the chief priests went to stone him for blasphemy because 'he claimed to be God'. Of course, to preserve the JW heresy, the New World Translation of the Bible records these incidences as the priests saying ' he claimed to be a god'. Yet they do not explain why the priests regarded him as blasphemous merely by claiming to be 'a god'. Blasphemy is reserved for the desecration of God alone. Again Jesus would be guilty of the worst blasphemy unless he was God incarnate.
  • He performed miracles - only God could do this. Others before and since, of course, performed miracles - Moses, Peter and so on - but always in God's (or Jesus') name. But Jesus performed miracles in his own name.

This means that when Jesus answered the questions of the disciples he did so in the knowledge that he was God incarnate. When the disciples asked Jesus what the Father looked like he replied - 'he who has seen me has seen the Father'. The meaning of 'The Father and I are One' is therefore crystal clear. Bearing in mind Jesus' own claims, here he states categorically that He and the Father are one and the same. Far from being a subservient 'son' of the Jehovah's Witness belief, Jesus is God himself in human form.

John 10:25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.

26But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.

27My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

28And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

29My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.

30I and my Father are one.

To help understand these scriptures one should use the scriptures to interpret scriptures, because not private interpretation will not do. (2peter 1:20)

Jesus was here not saying that he was God, anymore then he was saying that his followers were at (JOHN 17:21 that they may all be one; even as thou, Father, `art' in me, and I in thee, that they also may be in us: that the world may believe that thou didst send me.)

Scriptures plainly states JOHN 1:18 No MAN HAS seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared `him'

Instead taking into consideration other scriptures that deal with this same 'Expression' let us examine GAL 3:28 There can be neither Jew nor Greek, there can be neither bond nor free, there can be no male and female; for ye all are 'ONE MAN' in Christ Jesus.

1COR 12:12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of the body, being many, are one body; so also is Christ.

1COR 12:13 For in one Spirit were we all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free; and were all made to drink of one Spirit.

1COR 12:14 For the body is not one member, but many.

1COR 12:20 But now they are many members, but one body.

As anyone can read for themselves, in any bible, Jesus was saying that he was 'One with' or in harmony with the Father or God. Not that he was God.

In this verse:

Joh 8:58 Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM."

Jesus says he and God are one / the same. The Jews know exactly what he is saying because they take up stones to stone him

Joh 8:59 Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

And in this verse Jesus says he and God are one/the same:

Joh 10:30 I and My Father are one."

and again the Jews know what he is saying and they try to stone him:

Joh 10:31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him.

Joh 10:32 Jesus answered them, "Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?"

Joh 10:33 The Jews answered Him, saying, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God."

A:The Old Testament does not even mention Jesus. There is one New Testament reference that more or less equates God and Jesus, John 1:1: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God. and the Word was God." Here, the Word comes from the ancient Greek philosophers, who developed the concept of the Logos, or Word, participating in creation. This was not a Hebrew concept.

Another Answer:

The question of 'oneness' is often misunderstood as there are currently two Divine beings. If you think of 'God' as a surname for the convenience of answering this question, then it becomes easier to understand. Being 'one' requires a bit more space to fully explain.

When read in its entirety, we discover that no man has ever seen God (Father) and that the Divine being (Melchizedek identified in Paul's Hebrew 7 or the Rock of 1 Corinthians 10:4) of the entire Bible that interacts with man directly is the one who took on the role of Son in the New Testament which was announced before in the Old Testament and the Jews anticipated His coming:

Psalm 2New King James Version (NKJV) The Messiah's Triumph and Kingdom

2 Why do the nations rage,

And the people plot a vain thing?

2 The kings of the earth set themselves,

And the rulers take counsel together,

Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying,

3 "Let us break Their bonds in pieces

And cast away Their cords from us."

4 He who sits in the heavens shall laugh;

The Lord shall hold them in derision.

5 Then He shall speak to them in His wrath,

And distress them in His deep displeasure:

6 "Yet I have set My King

On My holy hill of Zion."

7 "I will declare the decree:

The Lord has said to Me,

'You are My Son,

Today I have begotten You.

John 10:30

New King James Version (NKJV)

30 I and My Father are one."

*** Note: However, mis-reading the question by omitting 'person,' I inadvertantly answered inappropriately as the 'Another Answer' below properly points out. There are indeed, at present, two divine beings in the Godhead - the Father as supreme, and the Word who became Jesus Christ as Lord (see 1 Corinthians 12:4-6).

When the Scripture speaks to 'One God' as in the Shema in Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 Corinthians 8:4; and 1 Timothy 2:5 to mention just three here, it is like human marriage when two(2) distinct and separate beings, they become one in marriage (see Genesis 2:24; Mark 10:8-9). But this physical 'oneness' is not complete/total. It is when we are 'begotten' by the Father via His Holy Spirit (see Acts 2:38-41), we begin our journey via His Churh (1 Corinthians 12:13) baptized into ONE body, awaiting the time of resurrection into sons and daughters of the God Family (2 Corinthians 6:8) - One God Family soon to have tens of billions of new members.

Another answer:

The Bible doesn't say that Jesus and God are one PERSON... any more than it can be said that a "father" and a "son" are the "same person."

The father of the "Jones family" is NOT the same person as his son... but they are ONE in that they are BOTH JONESES! That's the big error in man's thinking about "God"... in not thinking of "God" as a "Family."

The Bible, repeatedly, refers to God in familial terms: Father, Son, the Church is His WIFE... the Father "begets Children" by His Holy Spirit, which impregnates a "human spirit"... thus, making them HIS CHILDREN. Not the "SAME PERSON"... but conceived by the Father INTO HIS DIVINE FAMILY:

"...Now if ANY MAN have not the Spirit of Christ, HE IS NONE OF HIS." (Rom.8:9 KJV)

Extensive DNA testing is done these days to determine whether or not a man is the "father of a child." And if his DNA isn't found in the child... the child IS NONE OF HIS! So, is the Holy Spirit "God's Divine DNA." Its presence in the mind of a person makes them HIS CHILD.

Not the "same person"... but ONE OF GOD'S CHILDREN!

"The [Holy] Spirit itself beareth witness WITH OUR SPIRIT, that WE ARE THE SONS OF GOD: and IF CHILDREN, then HEIRS; Heirs of God, and JOINT-HEIRS WITH CHRIST; if so be that we suffer with Him, that WE MAY BE ALSO GLORIFIED TOGETHER." (verses 16-17)

God has created the "physical human family structure" and human birth process, to reveal to mankind [created IN HIS IMAGE]... what man's POTENTIAL is, and what HIS FUTURE IS -- to be RE-born! Not "physically"... but Spiritually... IMMORTALLY... to become the Divine Family of God; of whom, right now at this present time, is only the Father and His Firstborn Son, Jesus Christ... TWO PERSONS[thinking and acting and moving AS ONE]... working on the "inheritance" of God's Children: a "joint-inheritance" that Christ will share with them.

"For we know that ALL CREATION has been groaning as in the PAINS OF CHILDBIRTH right up to the present time. And even we Christians, although we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of Future Glory, also groan to be released from pain and suffering. We, too, wait anxiously for THAT DAY when God will give us our Full Rights AS HIS CHILDREN, including the New Bodies He has promised us." (Rom.8:22-23 NLT New Living Translation)

Many people tend to go "tilt, wacko, bonkers" when it comes to "religion." God doesn't click in their hearts and minds as having any connection, whatsoever, to reality. But, God created matter... the physical... reality... to show man the future Divine Family that He is creating. Through the unity [oneness] of the "marriage structure"... the family structure [ideally, in accordance with God's Word and instruction; where two people become ONE... one in purpose, planning and execution of theirs and their children's lives], a person's first taste of "relating to someone else, caring for someone else, being concerned about someone else beyond one's natural inward, selfish desires."

Even Jesus prays to His Father that the Church might BE ONE, AS THEY ARE!

"I make this petition, not for them [the disciples] only, but for all who ever come to believe in Me through their message, for THEM ALL TO BE ONE, JUST AS YOU, Father, ARE IN UNION WITH ME, so that THEY MAY BE ONE, JUST AS WE ARE. I in Union with them and you in Union with Me, so that they may be PERFECTLY UNITED..." (John 17:20-23 WNT William's New Testament)

Human families aren't perfect... but then, wherever deceived mankind takes a hand in the things of this life without His Creator's guidance... perfection has always eluded him.

But, the "oneness" of which Jesus speaks in His prayer to His Father is about FAMILY UNITY! The Oneness of the Divine Family of God. Not all of them being THE SAME PERSON... but, INDIVIDUALS with the Holy Spirit in them: thinking, working and acting as ONE through Christ in helping, teaching, edifying, caring for, being concerned about, and Loving one another in accordance with the Loving Laws and Giving Ways of their Creator -- so that one day shall have learned to Live in Harmony with each other. ETERNALLY!

"Righteous Father, although the world did not know you, I did know you, and these men have come to know that you sent Me, and I made known to them YOUR VERY SELF, and I will make you known still further, so that the Love which you have shown to Me may be felt in them, and I IN UNION WITH THEM." (verses 25-26)

God has NEVER been ONE PERSON. God has ALWAYS been a FAMILY... MORE THAN ONE PERSON:

"Then GOD SAID, 'Let US make people in OUR image, to be like OURSELVES... So God created people IN HIS OWN IMAGE..." (Gen.1:26-27 NLT).

According to Jesus... God's future Family is presently composed of TWO PERSONS: "...I and My Father are ONE...". But, shall one day be numbered as the stars in the heavens:

"...the LORD [Jesus Christ, the WORD of God; the Almighty Creator God of the Old Testament - see John 1:3] brought Abram outside beneath the night sky and told him, 'Look up into the heavens and count the stars IF YOU CAN. Your descendants [the Faithful Children of God - see Gal.3:7] will be like that - TOO MANY TO COUNT! '" (Gen.15:5 NLT)

All of these future Children of God will one day be ONE IMMORTAL DIVINE FAMILY! But, they will NOT all be the same PERSON.
