The Namib Desert is a desert in Namibia which forms part of the Namib-Naukluft National Park one of Africa's largest. The name "Namib" is of Nama origin. The desert occupies an area of around 50 000 km², stretching some 1,000 miles (1,600 km) along the Atlantic Ocean coast of Namibia, which is named after this desert. Its east-west width varies from 30 to 100 miles (50-160 km). The Namib Desert also reaches into southwest Angola.

Most of the rainfall is from fog off of the Atlantic Ocean.

There are a lot of animals like the bighorn sheep, thorny devil, armodillo lizard and a lot more and plants like the barrel cactus, brittle bush, chain fruit cholla, jumping cholla and a lot more. A fact about the jumping cholla plant is when something steps on it, it fastly raps its so called rope around what ever stepped on its leg or whatever it can grab . Plants and animals have to use adaptation to survive.
One rather interesting fact about the desert is that it is not always hot. During the night at the Sahara Desert, temperatures drop below freezing. Another fact is that most deserts are not covered by sand; They are covered by jagged rocks.
