I'm almost certain you will find it in the gas tank. I have an '88 Trooper and had to replace the fuel pump, and had to drop the gas tank to do it. If you get a Haynes repair manual, it will walk you through the process, it isn't that difficult. Obviously, the less fuel that you have in the tank, the easier it is. I used a floor jack to support the tank while I unbolted and disconnected it, and then just lowered it and wheeled it out from under the vehicle. The fuel pump will be located on top of the tank.
