The manual transmission does not have a dipstick , the fluid level is checked at the fill plug on the transmission
The automatic transmission fluid dipstick is near the firewall , towards the passenger side of the engine in the engine compartment . The manual transmission fluid level is checked underneath the vehicle at the transmission fill plug
Need to know make and model of vehicle in order to answer this.
Under the hood you will find a cap that says TRANSMISSION, or something to that effect. The cap is attached to the top end of the transmission dip stick. Pull out the dipstick and add transmission fluid through the dip stick spout. Add the fluid slowly and check the level often, you don't want to overfill. When the level is somewhere between the add and full marks on the dip stick, you have a good level.
The transmission fluid does not come out of the transmission dip stick. The transmission fluid is added through the dip stick area though. The exact specification on how to change transmission fluid will depend upon the exact vehicles and the owner's manual should be reviewed.
If it has a manual transmission then there is not a dip stick. To check the fluid level there are two plugs on the drivers side of the transmission. One says fill which higher than the other which says drain. Remove fill plug and insert finger into hole the fluid level should be just below the plug hole.
Most likely it will take mercon transmission fluid. Not to be confused with mercon V transmission fluid. To be sure pull the transmission stick out and read the side of the stick. It will tell you what fluid to use.
There is no dip stick on the manual transmission. However, there is a large plug (threaded) in the side of the transmission. It is located on the driver's side of the unit. After removing the plug the fluid level should be filled to that point. Use only Ford Mercon ATF transmission fluid in this trnsmission, not heavy viscosity gear lube. Ford explicitly states this. Use a bottle that you can squirt or squeeze the fluid into the unit. You fill it until it begins to run out of the same hole the large bolt is in (driver's side); approximately half way up the transmission body.
If it is a manual transmission it has no dip stick just a fluid level plug
manual or automatic transmission
