That would be George Rogers Clark, born in Albemarle County, VA just like his brother in 1752. He was known as a hero for raiding British outpost south and west of Detroit. He also captured Kaskaskia on the Mississippi and Vincennes on the Wabash, securing American claims to the Northwest. He also led an expedition against the Shawnee natives in Ohio in 1782.

Jose Mercado (Rizal's real name) does not deserve to be the national hero. It was the Americans that propagated the myth of Rizal in order to control the mindset of the Filipinos at that time. It would have been detrimental to the Americans if they allowed the likes of El Supremo Andres Bonifacio, General Antonio Luna, General Artemio Ricarte, and all the other Philippine Revolutionary leaders to be the national hero. During the American occupation, even the Philippine flag was NOT allowed to be displayed anywhere. They erased Spanish as the language of the Filipinos since it was the language used by Rizal, Bonifacio, Luna, and all the other revolutionary leaders and unfortunately replaced it with English.
