The first written reference to mice kept as pets occurs in the the oldest extant Chinese dictionary, from a mention in an 1100BC version, which is a little more than 3,000 years ago. However, breeding of the modern fancy mouse, as we know it, was not popular in Europe until the 17th Century.
Therefore the dog was domesticated first, then the cat, and finally the mouse.
