Software development ranks higher than IT (information technology) personnel, but both are among the most needed jobs on the job market. A masters degree is very helpful but not necessary for software development. It is nearly impossible to get a job in software development without a college career.

Computer science is much more heavy on math/logical ability ("discrete mathematics" in particular) than information technology.

According to me degree doesnt matter tht much if u are really skilled in programming and networking concepts.... and above all u shud one database good knowledge may be say oracle.... and u r good to go....degree never made u earn high or less,,,, its how pratical u are and how fast ur brain work to grasp things and find a solution .. thanks and regards microsoft support engineer shahid

it depends on what do you want to do in the future. If you want to know everything about computers such as programming, science, database, networking and ... you'd better choose computer science. However, if you keen on designing and web page, be a professional user who know how to put computers together then you should choose information system.
