You will notice squishy floors when water becomes trapped between the tub and liner, causing mold to grow. Liners use caulk for most of the joints that will need replacing about every five years, depending on use. Most installers are paid to get a job done as fast as possible and it shows, Most liners I have seen, have caulk lines that are horrendous.
Refinishing a bathtub is even a worse idea. It will only last from 3 to five years then will chip making it look worse then before. The only way to get a good durable bathroom, is to remodel with new fixtures. A properly remodeled bathroom should last 50 years or more, depending on materials used.
Purchasing materials from a DIY center will last about 10 to 15 years before falling apart.
