Singapore
Countries like India and China have a higher population but also substantially larger land mass which means less density of "people per square mile".
Monaco is ranked 1st in population density but is located in Europe, Singapore is ranked 2nd and is located in Asia.
Many other small land mass countries are in the top 20 such as Vatican City at rank 7, which is less than half a square mile in size but has a population of 920, which gives it a population density of 2090 people per square mile.
Monaco by comparison is rated at 41,970 people per square mile, but is also less than 1 square mile in size. Its total population is only 32,000.
Singapore's population is just over 4,400,000 with a landmass of 267.5 square miles, a population density of 16,500 per square mile.
To put this in perspective:
Ranked 6th, Bangladesh (also in Asia) has a population density of 2,595 per square mile (144,000,000 people spread over 55,500 square miles). Compared to the United States, its 300,000,000 population makes it just over double the population of Bangladesh; but its land mass at over 3,700,000 square miles means that its population density is only 79.5 people per square mile and places it at rank 142nd in the world.
China and India, the 2 largest populations in the world rank at 53rd (for China) and India comes in at 18th for population density. India has more than 1 billion people but they are spread over more than 1,260,000 square miles giving them a population density of 851 people per square mile.
China's even larger population is spread over more than 3,000,000 square miles, giving them a population densit of 352 people per square mile.
Also of note is Japan, which edges out India at rank 17th in the world for population density. Their population is almost one tenth of India at only 130,000,000 people but its substantially smaller land mass of only 145,000 square miles means they still cram in a bit more than 873 people per square mile.
At the other end of the spectrum is Mongolia (also in Asia) which ranks 192nd out of 192 countries in the world for population density. With only 5 people per square mile its less than 2,800,000 people are spread over 604,000 square miles.
Singapore is the most densely populated country in Asia. It is also the second most densely populated country in the world, after Monaco. Its population density is 7,363/km2.
