Charlemagne had a lot of children, and doubtless had some of whom there is no record. His sons included the following.
Charlemagne (742 AD-814 AD) had ten known wives or concubines. With them, he had twenty children. His first relationship, Himiltrude, gave him two children. His first wife, Desiderata, gave him no children and the marriage lasted only one year. His second wife, Hildegard, died in 783, but by her he had nine children. Fastrada, his third wife, gave birth to two more of his children. His fourth wife, Luitgard, died childless. He also had five known concubines which he had seven children with.
Charlemagne's sons were Louis the Pious, Pepin the Hunchback, Pepin of Italy, Charles the Younger, and Carloman. Louis the Pious eventually succeeded his father as emperor of the Carolingian Empire.
