The Senior Senator from the State of Utah is Orrin Hatch. He is a member of the Republican Party, and serves with Mike Lee as his "junior" Senator Colleague. He first assumed office on January 3, 1977, and was most recently reelected in 2012. Senator Hatch currently serves as the ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee and has previously served as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary and the Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee.

Amongst his well known political positions, Senator Hatch has sponsored a Balanced Budget amendment to the Constitution of the United States 17 times. This would require the the total spending of the federal government for any fiscal year not exceed total revenues.
