The police are a force of trained people that respond to emergencies in a certain area or jurisdiction. They can be summoned by dialing 9-1-1 in the United States, and will come to your aid should you need it. It is a free public service, but is also not something to be played with. Though they are required to respond to you for any sort of threatening situation, you must keep in mind that there are only so many police officers, and that you should only ask them to arrive in person to your house if you are in immediate danger. For other instances, such as loud party's or suspicious but not violent activity, you should only give information over the phone so they may respond directly to the problem. Don't call them to your house to tell them that someones making too much noise. Any problems may also be reported directly to an officer that may walk a beat in your area, or a patrolling police car. Keep in mind that all communities may not have police patrol, and that you may need to call them for assistance. Police officers may also summon the Fire Department or Ambulance services for you, or you may call 9-1-1 to summon the Fire Department or Ambulance as well.

The police are a group of people that protect and enforce the laws, they are part of the executive branch of the US government. Police work to keep the community safe and arrest law breakers. The idea of having police started in ancient times and can trace back to China and even the Roman Empire. The first modern police force, however, was started in the United Kingdom.
