Anne of Cleves hailed from Germany. the introduction was by portrait paintings. By tioday"s standards, she was not as pretty as some other Henry VIII consorts, but in those days, introduction was by formal portraits- which of course allowed for broad artistic license. No Nikons in those days, or even Speed Graphics ( which were invented in l9l2- a century ago) by Folmer und Schwing, two German-American camera designers.

The person who arranged the marriage between Ann of Cleves and Henry VIII was Thomas Cromwell, who was Henry's chief minister at the time. Cromwell hoped the marriage would strengthen alliances with Protestant powers in Europe, but it ultimately ended in annulment after a few months.
