The artist Geo is the contemporary painter Horace Glenn Lee who introduced two directions in contemporary art. The first genre he evolved, Neo.Ab.Ex. "Neo Abstract Expressionism" also refered to by Europeans as Neo-Expressionism was first introduced to other artists in 1977 and quickly gained fallowers both American and European. Neo-Ab.Ex. embraced the eclectic among other modern ideas and thought about fine art, the artist personally introduced the genre to the artists Julian Schnabel and Keath Harring for example, giving them both a direction which could be called "new" to fallow. The second genre of painting is called Geoism, first introduced in an exhibition of the painters work in 1982. This second direction concerns itself with relating off the picture plane of a painting to real living three dimensional space. Jasper Johns for example, barrowed from Geoism when he first introduced his own shadow in his paintings in 1984. And, the ideas for Robert Morris' "Fire Storm Series" were fabricated by Lee, making use of three geoistic 'painterly' visual elements; a 'two by three light source', 'raking light' and 'raking shadow'. Geoism has not gained a large number of fallowers like Neo-Ab.Ex. has, but has gained significant recognition because of an influence upon other artists, many major artists. Geo is a nick name or tag which had been given to the artist Lee, in part because of an association with Buckminster Fuller. Critics were at a lost for a term for Lee's paintings exhibited in 1982 and rumor spread through the New York art sceane of a new genre in painting by an artist known as Geo, the new genre came to be known as Geoism.
