Helen Keller born on June 27th 1880. She passed away June 1st 1968. She died at age 87. She was born in Tucumbia Alabama. She was not deaf, dumb and blind when born. Until 19 months old, she was able to see and hear. When she was 19 months old, she came up with Scarlet Fever. At this period of time, this illness was not curable. She lived in darkness until age of 7. When Anne Sullivan was hired to help Helen. In about one month Anne taught Helen how to learn the manual alphabet. She also learned how to read and write and Form sentences. She next mastered braille. She next learned to lip read. She slowly began to speak. As she grew up she wrote two books and was in a movie. In her lifetime she raised 2 million dollars for the American Foundation for the BLind. She is the most famous blind deaf and dumb person to live in lifetime. She proved that deaf dumb and blind people can learn. It doesn't matter what you have you can be helped either way!

Dumb, in this case, means mute.

Further information:

Helen Keller was the first deaf and blind person to graduate with a college degree, and ultimately published 14 books. She met every President of the United States from Calvin Coolidge to John F Kennedy, and wrote to eight Presidents of the United States, from Theodore Roosevelt in 1903 to Lyndon B. Johnson in 1965, receiving letters from all of them.

Helen Keller was a strong woman who inspired many to do their best even if they have disabilities or not. She was blind and deaf so it was hard for her to learn, but her teacher Anne Sullivan never gave up on her.

Helen Keller was a blind and deaf woman who changed the world by speaking out for what she believed in. She and her private tutor (Annie Sullivan) traveled around the world speaking out for rights for the disabled. Helen wrote "The Story of My Life" (which I find boring but you may enjoy) and many other books where written about her. Don't watch the Miracle Worker (it's not a very good representation of her life) or any other movies about her (there's a very bad cartoon one that's extremely offensive to any blind or deaf person) but a biography might be good. Anyways, there is a really good book that I found in the library called "Helen Keller"

(I am doing a English project on her, I'll forward you my paper when I'm done.)
