In October,1947 the HUAC or the House Committee on Un-American Activities summoned a number of persons working in the H'wood entertainment industry to appear before it on charges of being Communist sympathizers & that it posed a serious threat to the values of America.The HUAC had its main intention of primarily roping in the screen-writers & then the Actors,Directors & Producers who were members of the American Communist Party which was not illegal.Of the 43 put on the witness list a total of 19 refused to give witness.11 of the 19 were summoned & only 1 emigre playwright Bertolt Brecht chose to answer their questions,but 10 refused seeking refuge in the 1st Amendment.The 10 were charged with contempt of the Congress & proceedings began in the full House of Representatives.Eric Johnston the pres of MPAA declared to the Committee that none of the persons proven or admitted as communists will never be employed in H'wood.In a release to the press on the executive's behalf he stated that the 10 persons would be fired or suspended without pay & not re-employed until they were cleared of contempt & the charge of being communists.

∙ 15y agoThe accusations could be both fair, because of the fact that many of them WERE doing what they were accused of. Althrough it could also fall as just an accusation, and nothing more, that they were punished for at the TIME because of their names coming up at the wrong place and the wrong time. So to simplify what I've said: Wrong during their time, because no one really knew. Fair in the long run due to the fact we find everything out. Actors are actors, and actresses act.
