They want to take from people not give. Therefore, they put on their best facade or front in order to get what they want. They often mirror the behaviour and outlook of their prey. Such as, if you are very funny they will ACT like they have good humour. If you are educated they will either really be educated and make a connection there or they will bring up their so called intelligence. They want to form a bond with you in order for trust to develop. Once the trust is there, then the real misery starts with them going from idealizing to devaluing you. It is at the point your on a rollercoaster from hell. Then you begin to see what they really are, which is an empty shell. As they are so empty they seek to fill this void in a parasitical way. They will suck you dry in any way they see fit. Do not fall for the charm! Meet a real charming person who is sincere and has zest. That is REAL charm. Narcassisists have FAKE charm, they are not real people.
AnswerIt's all about conquests with them. As soon as they have achieved whatever it is they sought to gain emotionally, they are done. It's very easy for them to try so hard in the beginning because it is just a role. That's why it's so hard for US to let go, because all we tend to remember is how they will look into our eyes and slowly draw in a breath while shaking their head slowly from side to side and then as they breath out, they softly say "You are the most incredible person in the whole world".....
Answer
Answer number 2 is only applicable in some cases of Narcissism (most likely somatic narcissism). It is my belief that cerebral narcissists will hang on as long as their victim continues to inflate them and serve as a supply of good energy.
* Narcissists feel they have all the answers and people (especially their mate) should do as they say. * Narcissists don't like to be confronted with any type of aggression or a person flexing their independent muscles. * Narcissists are generally highly intelligent, but feel that others are not. * Their reality is not the reality you live by so there is no communication skills going on and never will be. It's best to remove yourself from someone such as this as it will only be an on going fight. If the mate of the Narcissist refuses to confront the Narcissist there is going to be a war and no winners.

==Answer == Narcissists are usually very charming and outgoing, so the answer would be no. They do, however, lack the capacity for empathy and while they are able to hide this well, they could come across as being cool and aloof thereby giving the impression of being somewhat introverted. ==Answer == Mine was a mix of extrovert/introvert. As the other said, they are VERY VERY charming - take your breath away charming. This usually requires a good amount of intelligence and the ability to be very articulate and verbal. -AlwaysLearning

Narcissism is far less calculated. Machiavellian's are thinkers, narcissists are observers. The just watch themselves being pretty, or charming or whatever. Machiavellians are opportunists who make a lot of considerations.
Narcissists do believe their own lies and they have no conscience. They don't think about how others feel. Others will percieve them as evil while they feel they are perfectly normal.

Yes, narcissists can be very charming and sweet, especially at the beginning of a relationship or when they need something from you (i.e. narcissistic supply). They will quickly turn to the other extreme, however, if their initial attempts to manipulate with charm do not work.
