Heel tattoos uncommon becauseThat area of skin is very thin for starters. It's a hard area to get to hold ink very well. The majority of the time ink will bleed right out instantly. It's also an extremely sensitive and painful area of the body as well. In addition to these points, if you can get the ink to stay in and hold, it takes a lot longer to fully heal too. Another issue is the amount of dead, or dry skin in that region attributing to the complexity of getting ink to hold. I know about this as I've a very detailed tattoo that complete encases my heel as part of an on going leg sleeve.

If you are considering this area for tattooing, make sure you go to a thoroughly experienced artist, otherwise your tattoo may look hideous. As mentioned above, it is a very sensitive area of the body. In other words, no matter how strong you are, or how great your self control is, your reflexes are going to kick in, and your going to twitch or jerk. A LOT! Good luck.
