The Vikings were a people who lived in Scandinavia (though they also settled other places) around the late 700's until cirka 1066.
They traveled to such countries as Scotland, Ireland, England (and Francia) where they continously plundered the land, not sparing monastries. However they were also settlers, the Danish Vikings inhabiting an area of England called the Danelaw (England would later be invaded by Vikings in the the early 1000's). The Vikings were also given an area of Francia and it was their descendants, the Normans, who invaded England in 1066.
They are also well known for their ships, which were built using lapstrake technique.
They made really stupid noises when they hit things. Such as "whaaa!" and 'HIYAAAAA!" and maybe even "whaaa-chaaaa!"

A romanticized picture of Vikings as Germanic noble savages emerged in the 18th century, and expanded during the Victorian era Viking revival.[2] In Britain it took the form of Septentrionalism, in Germany that of "Wagnerian" pathos or even Germanic mysticism, and in the Scandinavian countries that of Romantic nationalism or Scandinavism. In contemporary popular culture these clichéd depictions are often exaggerated with the effect of presenting Vikings as caricatures.[2
