LONG story: First off, in a way they both started it, Americans and the Irani's and Iraqi's, it was a little argument to begin with, something to do with oil, they thought we have been taking there oil supplies illegally and they weren't happy, it is also to do with A LOT of people blaming the Muslims for the WTC September 11th 2001 bombings, if you ask me, everyone in this world is a little bit to blame, we use our bloody cars all the time and we need to fuel for them, so we are taking it from places like Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran and Pakistan, if you would like a more in-deth answer have a look on Google or something as I am not sure if mine is 100% accurate! :)
