Why did the US try to win the war in Europe first rather than putting all of its resources into fighting Japan?

The Nazi Germans were bent on invading all the European nations including the United Kingdom. The Nazis killed millions of people just for being Poles, Danes, Dutch, Belgians, French and for being Jews or Slavs. Those brutal people had to be stopped. Japan was not as big a threat as the Nazis were to the continent of Europe.

∙ 10y agoGermany was considered more dangerous. Germany threatened all of Europe and Russia. Japan threatened mostly Pacific Islands. And German military armaments were generally more advanced.
In the end the decision proved sound. The German V-1 and V-2 rockets could have wreaked havoc if they weren't well along to losing the war and had difficulty building them and a limited number of areas to launch them from. And they were closer to building a nuclear bomb throughout the war and could have possibly done so first if we didn't continuously bomb their factories.
