he did win a 42% percent of the popular vote and like 99 electoral votes he did not have the required majority so it went to the house and Henry Clay was Speaker of the house, which gave him alot of the power therefore he put his support to John Quincy Adams
President Jackson had won the most votes, but not the majority. He just barely had more votes than John Quincy Adams so the revealing of the winner was postponed giving Adams more time, so he convinced one of his opponents to give him all of his votes if Adams made him Vice Present.

In 1824, General Jackson ran for president against Henry Clay and John Quincy Adams (son of John Adams, the second president). When Henry Clay did not win, he struck a deal with Adams saying that if Adams was to appoint him in his cabinet, then he will urge all of his voters to vote for Adams. Even though Jackson won the popular vote, Adams collected the electoral votes. This put Adams over the top, and he won the presidency. Jackson claimed that the two had made a corrupt bargain. This election was a very competitive, and very dirty election, for both of the candidates. Historians look upon it as "mudslinging".
In 1828, however, Jackson ran once more, and this time he won, with an overwhelming crowd. Over three times as many people voted in the 1828 election, compared to the 1824 election.
The House of Representatives chose J. Quincy Adams because none of the other candidates had a majority of electoral votes.
