Most people who commit genocide see the mass murder no differently than you might see the elimination of a rodent problem in your house. It is a less-than-glamorous task that simply needs to be done for the betterment of the group responsible for the genocide. This is mirrored by the propaganda that often accompanies the genocide, painting the victims as parasites or vermin.
