It's a bummer if the Christians you've come upon have been forceful, but there are a few things that will hpefully make it clearer. First, In every religion there will be people who try to make you become an immediate believer. It does not mean that all Christians are pushy. Second, Christians believe that unless you know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior you will not go to heaven. A lot of people would consider that one minded, or exclusive but God considers everyone his sons and daughter, children of the King. It's not something that Christians made up, it is something that God himself said. John 14:6 "Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No onecomes to the Father except through me'" So basically, Christians love God and want you to experience the same peace and beauty that they see in the Lord.

A Nihilists' point of viewIn my experience, it is because everyone likes to show off the things they hold dearest. "Look at my new car... isn't it great?... Dont you just want one for yourself?... I can tell you where to get one!". It makes people feel important and gratified to be the one who influenced someones decision. This applies to all people, not just the religious. We all like to recommend things that have made us feel good about ourselves. The thing that makes Christians feel good is their god, which is fine!

The other reason I have to offer is that because they believe so fervently that their god loves them, etc, they think they need to pity those who choose not to believe what they do. To you and I this is nonsense and unwelcome, but to them its perfectly normal. They have no concept of life without their god anymore than I have of live WITH a god! If I happened across a homeless man in the street who clearly hadnt eaten in days I would offer him food. If he refused it I would feel bad that hed go hungry and would try again to offer it to him. Eventually he would either take the food or get angry and shout at me to leave. I know its slightly different but the principal is the same. The homeless guy is happy without food, we are happy without god! Simple!

Could it be that atheists are sometimes just as bad? I know Ive been guilty of trying to make others "see sense" in the past. When all's said & done nothing will change but I cant help thinking that if both sides would just forget the other existed then everyone would be happy!

My viewI'm sure all sides have been pushy in individual discussions, but atheists don't come to my door 3x per week, trying to make me read passages and such. I think many churches or sects of Christianity believe that they will get rewarded for bringing more people into their church, also since (as is written above) many believe that all people who don't belive in Christ will go to hell, they are trying hard to save your soul. I know they take this seriously, but how many times to they have to canvass the same neighborhood?

There may be two main reasons. The first and optimistic one is that, having conviction in their faith or belief, they truly want an atheist to be converted and so that they may also enjoy what it would entail to be "saved." The second one, as sad as it may be, would be that they want their money. Answer: People often want the affirmation that comes from others admitting that they are right. In the conversion of a person to another's belief system there is also the consideration the folks who "believe" are very uncomfortable when a non-believer seems perfectly happy and just as lucky in love, health and fortune as the believers. The story of the "Emperor's New Clothes" comes to mind - the people who conned the emperor spread the story that only the truly intelligent and noble could see the invisible clothes. Everyone fell in line claiming their superiority in belonging to the group that could see the imaginary things.

The funny part is that many atheists once were religious believers but have fallen away from the theist point of view. The religious, in trying to reconvert them, are in the position of a person telling a divorced person that their abusive ex-spouse is really a fine person and should be welcomed back. Answer: It could also be that as humans, we are conditioned to believe that the more people who agree with me the more likely it is that I'm right- irrespective of logic or rationality- i.e. the one who shouts loudest is most correct

Some people can be overzealous in evangelizing. However, they feel as if you would if you knew the cure to cancer - you would want to tell everyone as soon as you could before it is too late. No-one can force you to accept since accepting Christ is a personal decision. However, sometimes even speaking of faith is regarded as 'forcing beliefs' on others in which case, the person making the assumption could be intolerant.

A:2

The Abrahamic belief systems such as Christianity and Islam are among the most oppressive religions still in existence, which denigrates others (as heathens, pagans and infidels) who don't follow their dogmas. Such atrocities are only natural with tyrannical systems that were designed to satisfy political and financial greed of the leaders who created them in the first place. History is full of evidence to support the fact that they are among the most oppressive and intolerant systems in the modern world. They have used their beliefs to influenced and dictated civil laws that infringe upon basic human rights and freedoms.

Even here the bullying and bigotry is surreptitiously evident.

How do Christian Existentialists differ from Atheistic Existentialists in their views of human values?

Christians believe in God and atheists do not. All Christians do not have the same values and all atheists do not have the same values. Christians and atheists both respect human values. Christians are more judgmental since they believe they know how everyone should live and they condemn both other beliefs and lack of belief. Atheists do not judge others or try to impose their non-belief on others. Both Christians and atheists have a positive influence on humanity. Christians choose their values and how to live within a Christian context. Atheists choose what they value and how they live for themselves.Human values predate religious belief. There is evidence from 14,000 years ago of prehistoric hunter-gatherers who were widespread in the Near East placing flowers in graves of deceased members. That indicates the existence of human values long before Christianity. On the other hand I would argue that one cannot be a true Christian and a true existentialist. The two are incompatible.

Why are Christians the only targets of atheists?

Because they are the only religion trying to tell everyone else that they are wrong. most other religions don't try and stuff their beliefs down others throats. Christians are notorious for thumping bibles on peoples foreheads.Answer:Delusions that you (and yours) are the only ones being targeted by a shadowy unknown evil conspiracy are generally identified as a persecution complex. Using this question as an example it would be necessary to determine/prove:If Christians are being targeted by atheistsWhat targeted means in this instanceIf Christians alone are being targetedIf there is a unified atheist movementIf the atheist movement has goalsI do not understand! I am atheist and am not against any religon. I just do not have a religon! If anything christians are targeting me! Every Christian who learns of my atheism is constantly telling me I am a great sinner and my disbelieve in the amightly is widening the gap between humanity and the Lord. They say if I do not convert I shall spend forever more after my death in the fiery depths of hell. This was said to me only 45 minutes ago and it was a minister who said this! I thought christians were supposed to be tolerant of all people! What happened to 'love thy neighbor as thy love thy self'? I believe that is meant to say that you should love others in the world or 'thy neighbor' as you would love your self. MY understanding of this means you should treat others as you treat yourself. Therefore you should tolerate everyone. Including atheists such as myself.Christians are not singled out by atheists. Atheists also argue against the beliefs of Judaism and Islam.

Which God does an atheist believe in?

Atheists do not believe in any god. Some atheists believe that there is no evidence that any god exists and that therefore there is no reason to believe in a god. Others believe positively that there is no god. Some Christians try to trick atheists by asking them to describe the god they do not believe in. If successful, the argument then becomes one about properly defining the "true God". This is dissembling, because, atheists do not believe in God, no matter how defined.Answer:Atheist by definition do not believe in god. It is like asking "who is a bachelor's spouse?"

No group has a unified approach to things. Some atheists see problems as opportunities for improvement, others as a reason to run around in circles feeling upset, still others have their own personal response.

Why do atheists partake in religious holidays?

Out of respect and conformity. Most Atheists don't try to convert people into atheists - they just want to be respected and for the world to know that they exist and shouldn't be disrespected. To show respect for others' holiday, we say Merry Christmas and truly wish people who do celebrate it have a joyous day of Dec. 25th.

What do you think about atheism?

What most people do not notice about atheism is that even though it is a belief that there is no God, it is still a belief system. I have no problem with atheists, nor do I have problems with true believers; however, I think whatever one's belief system is, it is between you and the Deity of your choice. You should not try to force it down others' throats.
