A flashing "check engine" light indicates that you're having a serious problem with one or more of the EFI circuits. You need to connect it to a diagnostic code reader to find out what's wrong. I suggest a visit to your local auto parts retailer where you can usually borrow, rent or buy a code scanner that will work with your vehicle.
