As far I have been told, Guayama are the south-eastern native Indian tribe who breed with the African slaves of the Spaniard Invasion. Is this true?
The reason Guayama is known as a town of witches or Puebo de Brujo is because of Chief Guayama, who governed the town before the spainards came. He was known as a very powerful medicine man within his tribe. The word brujo, translated from Spanish means witch, which is derived from the Gaelic word wiccae, which also means witch, wicca(n) or wise. Evidentally, he was very wise in his ways, and his descendants (myself included) often end up being brujos.
The meaning of the name of the town was told to me by my great-aunt when I visited Puerto Rico, so now you have it straight from the mouth of an elder. But be wary of us Guayameses, lest you incure our wraith, as we are again, very powerful.
