Distilled water is just water, the only possible impurity being a little hydrogen chloride. Tap water contains minerals from the rocks where it was collected, plus chemicals added by the water company to make it safe.

It sometimes isn't. Distilled water contains nothing but water; hence it does not have any of the minerals that our bodies can absorb from tap water, such as some calcium and fluoride. However, tap water can also often contain other chemicals or substances that are not healthy.

The choice between which is better really depends on where you are living and where you receive your water from.

Because tap water is just bringing water to you. Distilled water is getting the water, and also, boiling it then collecting the condensation for 100% pure water. If it doesn't say distilled, but still says "pure," then it is just filtered water, which still contains minerals other than water. Also "pure" water is more expensive than tap water.

Distilled water contains only water. Tap water, which is almost entirely water, does contain some trace quantities of other things, which would include chlorine residue from the disinfecting process used at the water plant, and some minerals.

Many people prefer distilled water over tap water since it has been ridden of its many impurities. There are theories that the fluoride found in most tap water is collected largely in the pineal gland. The pineal gland is located between the two hemispheres of the brain and its responsible for the synthesis and secretion of the hormone melatonin, which maintains your body's circadian rhythm and other functions relating to the onset of female puberty. It's not yet proven that fluoride has an effect on the pineal gland, but experiments on animals have shown that increased fluoride reduced melatonin levels and shortened the time to puberty.
