Well no, that would be an error of scholarship, not an error of political correctness. Zionists make no claim of ownership of either Beirut or Damascus. It has nothing to do with Zionism.

The names Birut (بيروت) and Dimashq (دمشق) which are the Arabic names of the cities do derive from Aramaic that was transliterated to Arabic. However, the English name "Damascus" does come from an English translation of a Latin translation of a Greek translation of the Hebrew Biblical Demeshek (דמשק), so Damascus is a name of Hebraic origin. Many names of cities in other countries come from third-party groups. The Arabic name for Austria, Nimsa (نمسا) comes from the Polish name for Germany: Niemcy.
