yes

There is very little salt in a saltwater pool compared to sea water, however as a result of this there is likely to be more corrosion but in 25 years I have never had any problems with it.

Unless you're in Australia I wouldn't imagine they are, but a salt water pool is a chlorine pool. The only difference is chlorine is generated on site rather than transported and added to the pool in the form of granules or capsules. As more people become aware of this process the change to salt water pools is becoming more prevalent in areas. why would you want to go to a store to pick up, store and handle a potentially dangerous chemical if you can produce it on site without having to handle it and only when needed? The purpose of a chlorine generator is to separate the sodium and choline modules in salt to use the choline as a pool sanitizer. The salt required in the pool to produce this chlorine is a low level (around 3200 ppm). less that the human body contains naturally (around 9000 ppm), and considerably less than the ocean contains (around 35000 ppm). Salt is also a natural water softener that makes the water feel more comfortable to bathe in. osmosis is less present in a salt water pool so you don't feel as "dried out" after swimming in one.

Yes, a salt water pool has just enough salt in it that will transmit trace amounts of energy and will cause corrosion to metals in your pool. You really must have a zinc anode in your system to help alleviate this issue.

Why is chlorine used in swimming pools?

Chlorine is used in swimming pools for a few reasons. The most common are: 1. Chlorine acts as a mild disinfectant, it makes swimming in the water a more sanitary activity. 2. Chlorine also inhibits the growth of algae. Without chlorine, most pools would be green within a few days.

Does chlorine make pools more acidic?

It has litle effect on the pools acidity.

Why is chlorine harmful but we use it in pools Can't that poison us?

Because we use a tiny amount of it in the pools. The water is a lot more than the chlorine so it could dilute it. To remove any dangers, test the pool water with a pH strip.

Are salt water pools more environmentally friendly than chlorine pools?

yes because salt water is not harming any fish or marine life so it is environmentally friendly.

What type of water contains chlorine?

Any water which has had chlorine added to it. Swimming pools don't go out and buy chlorinated water from someone who has a lake full of the stuff, or anything like that. They use tap water, and add some chlorine. +++ Mains supply water is filtered then chlorinated at the treatment works, but to only about 2ppm. Swimming-pools work at 2 - 4ppm so more chlorine-donor is added to the pool.

How common are saltwater pools installed?

Salt water pools are becoming more common as people find that they are a little more refreshing to swim in. Also, as chlorine tends to bother some, salt pools might be a good alternative.

Would chlorine contribute to conductance in water?

It will. There is an actual sensor used in commercial pools, (ORP sensor: Oxidation Reduction Potential) that measure conductivity, the more chlorine the more conductivity.

Where can I find a public non chlorine swimming pool in Minnesota?

NOT ALL POOLS NEED CHLORINE. Salt Water pools are cleaner and do not harm the environment. I too am allergic to chlorine. It affects more than just my eyes. When I swim in pools with chlorine, I get upper respiratory and bladder infections. I too am having difficulty locating a non-chlorine public alternative. Because chlorine is cheaper than salt and most people aren't allergic to the levels used in public swimming pools; most municipalities choose that option. What I would recommend is that you call the local Parks & Recreations Office and ask them if there are any public salt water pools.

What effect does chlorine have on Gunite Pools?

chlorine itself has very little effect on the plaster coating that is used in most pools, if your coating is of a color , chlorine added directly to a spot may cause some discoloration , but unlikely, the pH or alkalinity of the water is of much more concern than the chlorine when it comes to a gunite pool coating.

Will chlorine kill algae?

Salt water pools are chlorine pools it just that the chlorine is electronically made from the salt. Salt water pools have problems with algae the same as just freshwater chlorine pools. If you are lucky you may be able to nip algae in the but by over chlorinating but more often then not you would be well advised to throw some algaecide in the pool to kill it of. (Always follow the directions on the bottle.)

What are the major benefits of salt water pools over chlorinated ones?

== == SALT WATER POOLS ARE CHLORINATED POOLS. The difference is that the chlorine is added or manufactured automatically -- you do not have to physically add chlorine by hand daily or weekly. You also get a more even distribution of that chemical being added. However, you do have to monitor and maintain your equipment and test the chemicals periodically -- at minimum - weekly because of other chemical factors in water balance. k== == Salt water pools are also chlorinated pools. The chlorinator converts the salt into chlorine and keeps the levels at a constant. The benefit is that you don't have to keep adding chemicals like a traditional pool. We installed a salt pool four months ago and love it. Once you get the levels of salt right it is virtually maintenance free.

What is the element that is used in swimming pools to keep out bacteria?

Usually a chlorine based chemical is used. But chlorine doesn't kill it all. See link for more.
