If the control panel shows activity but there is nothing "really" happening, i.e., no air blowing at all, it is probably a bad blower motor resistor. I am changing my second one already at ~50,000 miles. Be prepared to pay ~$90 for this little piece. Essentially, any time you use your fan at LESS than full power, the resistor is activated, putting great wear and tear on it. Your best bet is to always run your fan at full, so the resistor stays off...
