This problem is typically caused by a bad differential speed sensor that can be easily replaced by your mechanic for about $300 ($200 for parts, $200 for labor). If you are mechanically inclined you can fix it yourself for about $100 in parts from the Arizona Autohaus web site. After fixing it you will need to calibrate the speed sensor in the following manner:

The owners manual states stop the car immediately. Shut it off, start it up again and for about
quarter to half mile do not exceed 8 mph, go slow and the light will shut off. If the light comes back on,
repeat the same. If it does not go off or it returns, have it serviced.
<jhoover58> Someone edited out the rest of my answer, I've added it back here. There is one additional problem that many mechanics can't find. That is a wire has broken between the abs brake module and the speed sensor on the differential. Unplug the abs module and speed sensor connection then perform a continuity test on each wire. If you find a bad wire, splice in a new one to see if the light goes out. That fixed my problem but not until I had already spent $300 on a mechanic who at the end said I needed a new abs module, a new complete wiring harness to go along with the new speed sensor he put in that didn't fix the problem. I also spent days searching elsewhere for the problem. I wish I knew about the bad wire problem earlier.
I had same problem with my 2001 Isuzu rodeo sport with 53K miles.......and just put a new battery in and presto, no more abs light.....I think if your battery is weak (does the car have any problems starting and is electrical good?), it will trigger the abs light.....it did on mine.
For the ABS it is on the left side of the rear axle.
Repair the brakes. The light can be set on by a variety of problems from a burned out tail light bulb, to an unsafe condition such as stuck emergency brake shoes, or air in the lines, a bad sensor, or even the ABS module is bad.
You need to inspect the ABS units
how to reset abs warning light on 2000 gmc Yukon
The abs light is on because there is a problem with the abs system. Have the system repaired and the light will clear itself.
Rodeo Rear ABSI know for a fact that the 1996 and 1997 Rodeos are the same. So here is what I know about the Rer ABS light and Break light that come on at the same time on the instrument cluster. The rear differential has the ABS sensor on top. If you follow the wire, it connects to a faulty plug that sometimes fails to keep the connection 100%. If you cut the wires and use a soldering tool to weldthem together this will take care of that problem. Make sure you wrapthem the conetion once done with liquid plastic, srinking plastic. ect.
The ABS module detects a problem with the ABS system. Your local auto parts store can read the code(s) stored in the ABS module to help determine the cause. As long as the ABS light remains on the ABS system will not function if needed.
abs codes are retreved by juming obd2 terminal 4-12 after codes plump brake petal 6 times
You have a problem with the abs system. Once the problem is fixed the light will reset itself.
the amber ABS light indicates a problem with the ABS system, not the main braking system. but the main braking system is working.
If you disconnect the ABS module, the system will default to conventional brakes, but the ABS light will be on.
